Description
We have many many birch trees on our new property and I must say these trees are absolutely amazing. I can totally understand the early natives love affair with these trees. The bark is not just white and beautiful but it is also waterproof and continuously regenerating. Pull the bark off of a Birch tree and then check the layers withing that strip and then look at the tree where the strip came from and see the layers remaining.
These trees also grow so amazingly tall and in a good wind they tend to sway but are still very sturdy in the ground. We do find after a good wind storm there are fallen branches on the ground which we gather and save for outdoor fires. Another thing about the bark is that it is very very flammable and makes perfect fire starter but only outdoors. I don't think the creosol in the bark is good for your chimney.
Here we have a view looking up into the birch treetops in the fall before they lost their leaves for the season. I can promise, however, that even without their leaves they are still stately and inspiring.
