Description
These are pretty amazing birds. Harper Lee named her famous book "To Kill A Mockingbird" as a representation of the death of innocence. I guess she also found them to be an extraordinary creature.
In learning about them I also found that they were kept in cages in the 19th century so much that they almost became extinct. I have never heard one sing but I can just imaging how beautiful their song can be to want to keep them in your home. They certainly are friendly little fellows.
This little fellow was my first encounter with a mockingbird and I now hope it won't be my last. He was very friendly and that in itself made me want to bring him home with me but I settled for a few dozen photographs. I actually didn't even know he was a Mockingbird till I came home from vacation and did some research to find what his species is. Silly northern girl that I am thought he was some sort of sparrow.
