Description
These are pretty amazing birds. Harper Lee named her famous book "To Kill A Mockingbird" as a representation of the death of innocence. I guess she also found them to be an extraordinary creature.
In learning about them I found that they were kept in cages in the 19th century so much that they almost became extinct. I have never heard one sing but I can just imaging how beautiful their song can be to want to keep them in your home. They certainly are personable.
This little fellow was my first encounter with a mockingbird and I now hope it won't be my last. He was very friendly and that in itself made me want to bring him home with me but I settled for a few dozen photographs. I actually didn't even know he was a Mockingbird till I came home from vacation and did some research to find what his species is. Silly northern girl that I am thought he was some sort of sparrow.
