When a pine tree grows new cones they are fresh and green. By the autumn they become brown and old but this is when these cone house those tasty pine nuts that the squirrels and birds covet.

This makes them safe for the summer to grow and age but they are never far from the sights of wildlife as they wait and salivate over tomorrow's dinner.
