Description
I tried something different this year and transplanted my giant allium bulbs from the back of the perennial garden into my grasses. I planted them between clumps of Karl Foerster grass so just as the grasses started to get tall but not yet reedy the Allium started blooming. Doing this hid the unsightly foliage that comes with the plant and created a unique view of the allium and grass. After the bulbs died away I cut them back and left the foliage to die off naturally as it is invisible between clumps of grass. It should make for healthier bulbs next spring.
In the meanwhile we enjoyed the view of these wonderful spring flowers among the grass rather than the normal transitional view of tall grass clumps.
